2024 Region 9 Baseball Players of the Week

Week 1 - 1/29/24 to 2/4/24
Pitcher - This week’s Pitcher of the Week is Sage Ferguson, a Sophomore right handed pitcher from Northeastern Junior College. Over the Plainsmen’s 5 game trip to Arizona Ferguson was impressive on the mound.  Sage threw 6 innings while giving up 5 hits, walking no one and striking out 6.  In his start he gave up 3 unearned runs over his 6 innings.
Player - This week’s Player of the Week also comes to us from Northeastern Junior College, Josh Cote, a sophomore catcher.  During his 5 games Josh was hot at the plate hitting .438 (7-16) with 4 runs scored, 2 doubles, 2 RBI, and 3 BB, ending up with a .474 OBP.

Week 2 - 2/5/24 to 2/11/24
Pitcher -  This week’s Pitcher of the Week is Ryan Smith, Sophomore right handed pitcher from Lamar Community College.  In a four game weekend set vs. El Paso Community College, the Runnin Lopes went 2-2 with Ryan picking up the win in his start.  Smith went 5 innings, giving up 4 hits, 1 run, 1 earned run, while walking 3 and striking out 6.
Player -  This week’s Player of the Week comes to us from McCook Community College, Cory Wouters, a freshman designated hitter.  During McCook’s doubleheader in Texas Wouters hit .677 with a 2B, HR, 3 runs scored, 2 RBI, and a walk.

Week 3 - 2/12/24 to 2/18/24
Pitcher -  This week’s Pitcher of the Week is Dominic Coleman, a sophomore right handed pitcher from Otero College.  Otero went 3-1 in a four-game set against El Paso CC, and Coleman was outstanding on the mound on the way to their 1-0 victory in game three of the series.  Coleman threw 5 innings without giving up a run, and only giving up 2 hits while striking out 5 and walking 3. 
Player -  This week’s Player of the Week also comes to us from Otero College, Isaiah Pintor, a sophomore outfielder paced the offense in their 3-1 weekend hitting .583 (7-12) with 2 doubles, a triple, while scoring 5 times, to go along with 2 walks and a stolen base while driving in 7 runs on the weekend.

Week 4 - 2/19/24 to 2/25/24
Pitcher - This week’s Pitcher of the Week is Cody Bruss, a Sophomore left handed pitcher from Southeast Junior College.  Southeast went 6-2 over the week and Cody appeared in four of those games, in his 4 appearances Bruss threw 6.2 innings picking up 2 saves on the week.  On his way to a successful week Bruss only gave up 4 hits in his outings, while not giving up a run, as well as walking 2 and striking out 10.  
Player - This week’s Player of the Week comes to us from Northeastern Junior College, Josh Cote a sophomore catcher/first baseman had a monster week in 6 games, while leading the Plainsmen offensively as they went 5-1 on the week.  Cote hit .550 with 9 extra base hits including 2 doubles, a triple, and 6 Home Runs, while also driving in 19 runs.  His week also included scoring 13 runs, walking 3 times and a stolen base.   

Week 5 - 2/26/24 to 3/3/24
Pitcher - This week’s Pitcher of the Week is Ethan Badcock, a Sophomore left handed pitcher from McCook Community College.  McCook went 2-2 over the weekend and Badcock appeared in both of the victories finishing off both wins out of the bullpen.  Picking up the win in game one, and throwing two scoreless innings in game 3, Ethan threw 3.2 innings, giving up runs, on no hits, while striking out 3 and walking one.   
Player - This week’s Player of the Week comes to us from Northeastern Junior College, Josh Cote a sophomore catcher/first baseman, Cote has gone back to back weeks as POW the week in Region 9.  Josh helped NJC go 4-0 over the weekend and had another huge weekend hitting .500 while blasting 4 more HR’s while scoring 6 runs and driving in 9, with 1 walk.   

Week 6 - 3/4/24 to 3/10/24
Pitcher - This week’s Pitcher of the Week is Sage Ferguson, a Sophomore right handed pitcher from Northeastern Junior College. Ferguson picked up a win in NJC’s doubleheader against CSUP, in the victory Sage pitched 5 innings, giving up 2 runs, on 4 hits while striking out 7 hitters and walking 2.   
Player - This week’s Player of the Week comes to us from Lamar Community College, Eduardo Cardenas a first baseman/Outfielder in their series against Wayland Baptist.  Cardenes had a big weekend hitting .417 with 4 Home Runs while driving in 9, he also scored 6 runs and walked twice.       

Week 7 - 3/11/24 to 3/17/24
Pitcher - This week’s Pitcher of the Week is Myles Chabi, a sophomore from McCook Community College. Chabi made an appearance vs Northwestern Oklahoma JV pitching 4.2 innings, giving up 0 earned runs, 5 hits while collecting 8 strikeouts and no batters walked.
Player -   This week’s Player of the Week comes from Lamar Community College, Ethan Long, a first baseman from Frisco, TX. Long batted .444, a pair of Home Runs which drove in 4 RBI’s and counting for 3 runs scored in their midweek matchup vs Colby Community College

Week 8 - 3/18/24 to 3/24/24
Pitcher - This week’s Pitcher of the Week is Sage Ferguson, a Sophomore right handed pitcher from Northeastern Junior College. It would be hard to be better than Ferguson was in his start vs. Trinidad State this past weekend, in their region opening 10-0 win the right hander took a perfect game into the 6th inning.  Sage finished with 6 IP, giving up no runs, only giving up one hit, while walking one and striking out 13.  The 13 strikeouts also set an NJC single game record for Strikeouts.
Player -  This week’s Player of the Week comes to us from McCook Community College, Blake Dale sophomore SS from Riverton had a big week at the plate.  In McCook’s 6 games including a 3-1 start in region play, Dale hit .476 (10-21) with three doubles, a triple, two home runs, while scoring eight runs, with ten RBI also walking twice.

Week 9 - 3/25/24 to 3/31/24
Pitcher - This week’s Pitcher of the Week is Cameron Teinert from Lincoln NE, Teinert is a Sophomore right handed pitcher from Southeast Community College.  Cameron set the tone for Southeasts four game weekend region sweep as he went out in game one and pitched a great game.  In his start vs. NJC Teinert threw five innings picking up the win, while only allowing one run on four hits while striking out ten and not walking anyone.
Player -  This week’s Player of the Week also comes to us from Southeast Community College, sophomore catcher Elliot Peterson from Omaha NE.  Peterson had a big week at the plate for Southeast leading them to a perfect 6-0 mark on the week.  In Southeasts 6 games including a 4-0 region sweep,  Elliot hit .682 (15-22) while hitting two home runs and driving in 12, Peterson also scored ten runs, walked three times, and stole eight bases.

Week 10 - 4/1/24 to 4/7/24
Pitcher - This week’s Pitcher of the Week is Oliver Mabee from Oak Bay British Columbia, the right hander from Trinidad State got a complete game victory in his start over the weekend.  Oliver took the hill against Otero and picked up the 3-1 win, going 7 innings, giving up one earned run while only giving up two hits, striking out nine and walking two. 
Player -  This week’s Player of the Week comes to us from Western Nebraska Community College.  Sophomore shortstop Shintaro Inoue had a historic week for the Cougars.  Over the weekend Inoue broke two career records for WNCC, career home runs with 25 and career runs scored with 96.  For the weekend WNCC went 4-0 and Shintaro paced the offence hitting .750 (9-12) with three doubles, two home runs 12 RBI, he also scored nine times and walked five times.   Congrats to Shintaro on his accomplishments.

Week 11 - 4/8/24 to 4/14/24
Pitcher - This week’s Pitcher of the Week is Cory Wouters from Saskatoon Canada, the left hander from McCook CC got a complete game victory in his start over the weekend.  Wouters took the mound and went the distance in the Indians 11-0 victory, Cory threw seven innings giving up five hits, all singles, while not giving up a run while striking out 11 and only walking two.
Player - This week’s Player of the Week also comes to us from McCook CC.  Sophomore shortstop Blake Dale from Riverton WY paced the Indian offense during their 5-0 week.   Dale hit .524 for the week totaling 11 hits in 21 AB’s while scoring eight runs.  Dale also tallied a double and four home runs while driving in a total of 15 runs, including the game winning RBI in their extra inning 5-4 win over Trinidad State.  

Week 12 - 4/15/24 to 4/21/24
Pitcher - This week’s Pitcher of the Week is Aiden Johnson from Westminster CO, the right hander from McCook CC threw a complete game shutout in his start over the weekend.  Johnson took the mound in game one on the weekend and went the distance in the Indians 6-0 victory, Aiden threw seven innings without allowing a run, while giving up three hits, Johnson also struck out 11 and walked only one. 
Player - This week’s Player of the Week comes to us from Southeast CC.  Sophomore outfielder Avery Moore from Omaha NE paced the Southeast offense during their 6-0 week.   Moore had a big week as he  hit .611 over their six games.  Moore also put up huge power numbers as he totaled four home runs and a triple.  Avery also scored 12 runs and had 19 RBI to cap off his award winning week performance.
